The UN envoy to Libya Jan Kubis stressed that Libya should be fully sovereign over its lands without any foreign presence, pointing to the need for the exit of foreign mercenaries supported by regional and international parties.
Kubis indicated - in statements reported by the Africa News portal today, Saturday - to the need for a clear constitutional rule and legal framework for the elections by July; In order to be able to ensure that the necessary preparations are made and the elections are held, considering that the continued work of the legal committee and a clear focus on reasonable proposals for the constitutional base for the elections may be decisive in finding a solution to this issue, indicating that the speedy completion of the work cuts the way to those who want to disrupt the elections.
The UN envoy emphasized the importance of the national reconciliation file, suggesting that a woman should chair this committee, explaining that the President of the Presidential Council, Muhammad al-Manfi, and the Prime Minister, Abdel-Hamid al-Dabaiba, considered this one of their first priorities.
The UN envoy considered that the forum for political dialogue is important in the present and in the future, but he called for an evaluation of the past phase in order to do what is necessary within the roadmap for the next phase, supported by the international community and committed to it.
