Port Said hosts the start of the local weightlifting season



Mahmoud Mahjoub, Chairman of the Interim Committee of the Weightlifting Federation, revealed that the local competitions will be launched in the Republic Championship for U-15 and 17, which are scheduled for next May 17 in Port Said, similar to the Republic Championship for adults scheduled for the period from 11 to 18 June.


Mahjoub said, in a press statement, that the federation is currently aiming to reunite and open a new page with the family of the game, indicating that the decision to establish tournaments in the governorates of Egypt in order to spread the game and restore its prestige again in light of the events of the international suspension.


Next June 25 has been set for the start of the Egyptian General Cup for adults for the local season 2020/2021, in light of the decision to return activity and life to the game after appointing a temporary committee to manage the affairs of the federation, as the federation preferred to start competitions after the end of the month of Ramadan, especially since there is no An international link under suspension.


Mahjoub pointed out that the current role of the committee is to return the wheel of life to the sport of weightlifting, reuniting the family of the game, opening a line of reconciliation and converging views with the opposition fronts for the sake of the Egyptian weightlifting sport.


Mahjoub stressed the importance of the resumption of local activity for weights after a long hiatus due to the Corona virus and the lack of a board to manage the federation, as the Olympic Committee recently appointed a committee to conduct business headed by Mahjoub. The committee includes: Hani Sheikhoun, Eman Mahmoud, Ahmed Abdel Mawjid, Kawthar Al-Saeed and Wafa Mahmoud And Hussein Fathy, as this committee will continue its work until the end of the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.


Mahjoub also indicated the need to discuss the suspension situation and follow up on the appeal that was filed in CAF in light of the Egyptian Federation being stopped internationally due to doping.
