Lebanese parliament approves a $ 246 million loan to halt the deterioration of the economy and the continuing protests

Yesterday, Friday, the Lebanese Parliament approved a $ 246 million loan from the World Bank, which would provide cash assistance to more than 160,000 families in the small country, which is suffering from an unprecedented economic crisis and the Coronavirus epidemic.

According to Sky News, the approval came while the local currency reached a new record level in the new market, where one dollar was traded for 11,150 pounds. The new collapse in the currency's value sparked immediate protests, most of them in the north of the country.

France had warned that time was running out in Lebanon before the total collapse, and blamed politicians who for months had not been able to agree on forming a new government at a time when Lebanon slid into an economic and financial abyss.

And last week, protesters blocked roads across the country with burning tires for a week after the price of a dollar reached 10,000 pounds on the black market for the first time. The collapse of the currency is throwing more Lebanese into poverty as purchasing power declines.
